Scandic Joensuu

The breakfast was good, and the staff were friendly. WiFi was free and worked well. One thing to know about Finland: staff have to open alcoholic drinks before handing them over, so if you want to save one for later, make sure it has a screw top. I guess you're meant to drink it at the hotel.

The staff were nice and helpful, and breakfast had a good, wide selection. But the buffet is downstairs in a room with no windows, and the boiled eggs weren't kept warm. There isn't a restaurant for lunch or dinner, and apparently you're not allowed to eat your own food in the hotel lobby. My room was comfortable, though the beds were poorly made in the morning. The interior felt carelessly put together, with tasteless furniture. For one of the most expensive hotels in town, the experience was disappointing.

My shower gel bottle was empty, which I find unacceptable for a four-star hotel. Someone else in my group had the same problem.

The rooms were pretty hot in the summer heat, and there was no complimentary coffee or tea in them. They don't have their own gym either. Compared with other Scadics, this place was a disappointment.
