Scandic Kemi

Karolina was so kind and professional. We spilled the kettle water all over the bin by accident, and she promptly helped clean it up and checked that we were okay and had everything we needed. She also took the time to have a lovely chat with us. We felt really cared for.

The staff were friendly, helpful, and good at solving problems, but the management needs to rethink its approach. The hotel is okay, though it doesn't really feel like a 4-star place. There's no restaurant service on Sundays and no laundry facilities on weekends. The room TV is so old you can't even connect YouTube, and Netflix feels like a dream, even though the online description says these facilities are available. Room cleaning is scheduled every 3 days to protect the environment, but I think it should happen when guests request it instead. It's expensive, so management needs to figure these things out.

The food and amenities made this a lovely family stay. Breakfast and dinner buffets had lots of good choices, including vegan and gluten-free options. We swam in the free-access pool and sauna every day, and the games room by reception was great with the kids. The staff were always pleasant and attentive. Scandic Hotel is centrally located in Kemi near the main shopping street, with several good places nearby to see the Northern Lights. Its rooms have a nice Finnish design, plenty of space, and a very large bathroom. The bedding was comfortable for both adults and children. I highly recommend it.

The one bright spot was the reception team. The ladies there were polite, kind, and helpful, and I appreciated their professionalism. The rest of our stay at Scandic Kemi Hotel was very disappointing. We were there with a tourist group from 28/12 until 2/1, and the room was never properly cleaned. The beds weren't made, and housekeeping only changed one towel in the bathroom. For a hotel at this price, especially one hosting an organized group, that's far below what I expected. It doesn't justify the cost when even basic housekeeping is missing.
