The porridge was consistently cold, and breakfast overall felt very mediocre. The private rooms are hostel-style and very expensive for what you get. The supermarket is a 2-2.5km walk away. If you’re after a hostel where people share adventures, this didn’t feel like that. I’m afraid there’s much better value in Äkäslompolo.

The owner is a strict lady, but her dog Kushka gets five stars from me. I loved the place. The beds were very clean, and both the kitchen and the dryer were good. We caught the aurora, which was fantastic. I’d definitely come again.

This is a biased review since we know the owner, so keep that in mind. We stayed six nights at KuerHotel in March. There are hotel and hostel sides. Our hotel room was clean and looked recently renovated, with twin beds, a small fridge, TV, sofa, and the usual basics. There’s a pleasant lobby with board games and a TV, plus two saunas and three dryers for wet or sweaty clothes. Kuerkievari has lovely, always friendly staff, great homemade lunch and dinner for 12€ and 18€, a cafe for snacks and drinks including alcohol, homemade pastries, and snowshoes for 15€ a day. The scenery is awesome, and you can watch the aurora borealis from the yard. Ski and motorsled tracks start behind the place. They also don’t offer bad moods or bad food.

The room was very cold when we arrived, and it stayed that way through the night, despite hoping it would warm up. Breakfast was a plain continental spread. The staff were very friendly, though, and the hostel itself looked really good. We stayed one night.
