We had a really lovely week in private cabin No. 37, which had its own sauna. The buffet had plenty of variety and was good, the staff were attentive and extremely friendly, and the grounds were kept in great shape. They cleared snow from the paths, and the Wi-Fi worked very well. There were three things that could be better. The bathroom sink drain gave off an unpleasant smell all the time. Also, the private sauna’s water scoop was plastic and had such a short handle that pouring water on the stones risked burning your hand with the steam. The shared sauna had a proper wooden bucket and long-handled ladle. The cabin key was the biggest hassle. In about half the attempts, it got stuck in the lock and wouldn’t go all the way in, especially when it was cold. At −25°C, waiting outside for a minute or two while fiddling with it before getting inside was frustrating. We were told at check-in that it had always been a bit of a problem, but after paying several thousand euros for a week, it’s hard to accept when it seems neither expensive nor complicated to fix.

We spent a beautiful week here in winter, with lots of options for adventures. The village center is about a 20-minute walk, and in winter you can cross the frozen lake to get there. We’ll come back.

We booked through fin touring and ate dinner here every evening after coming from Hotel Seita, so I can’t really say how the hotel itself is. But the food was freaking amazing, and the bar is super cozy.

It feels luxurious, but the food has a comforting home-cooked taste and the place isn’t formal at all. Most guests are from Central Europe, though if you’re lucky you might get a seat at the Perinneillallinen buffet dinner. The raw salmon could use less salt. Try the smoky reindeer liver, it’s delicious!

The breakfast buffet is great, and the whole place feels magical: a cozy log cabin, endless ski trails, and Northern Lights overhead. There are warm saunas, really good food, and husky adventures too. Maybe you’ll even spot one more reindeer.
