Hotel Kalevala

The bear watching was a highlight, and the hotel has plenty of activities to choose from. We stayed for two nights and had a lovely time. Staff were kind and professional, and both the local-specialty dinners and breakfast buffet were excellent. The sauna and jacuzzi are free to use. The sauna sits by the lake, which is refreshing, and it's open from 6 to 8 pm. We'd happily recommend Kalevala hotel and come back, probably in winter next time.

Juha took us on husky sled rides, and we also toured with local guide Jari and went on an amazing ski trip with local guide Kerttu. Everyone went out of their way to make us feel at home, and the cook was excellent. We had a wonderful time in this charming hotel. Definitely recommend!

We tried several of the activities they arrange: a husky sled tour, ski lessons, a day out tracking wildlife with a specialist photographer, and a snowshoe trip with a guide. There's a similarly wide range of things to do in summer. The hotel is right by the lake, and in winter the ski slopes or sled trail start at the front door. You can rent what you need, from skis to ice skates. The sauna was good, and there are two jacuzzis, one indoors and one heated outdoors with a lake view. Breakfast includes local food and Karelian pies. The rooms are good, too. The staff at Kalevala Hotel were all friendly and very helpful. The town is interesting, and the hotel is near the Winter war Museum and a great burger place. Many thanks to the team.
