The lake view was the one genuinely lovely thing, if you happen to get the right room. It couldn't make up for the rest, and for the price I found the stay absolutely not worth it. We spent two nights in a private room with our own bathroom. At first glance the room seemed okay, but the overall experience was very disappointing, and I wouldn't recommend staying here or come back. The biggest problem was the dust. I was fine after the first night, but by the second I was feeling properly sick. I've had similar symptoms while working on a dusty construction site, so I know the feeling. It was extremely dusty, and anyone with asthma, lung problems or dust sensitivity should avoid the place completely. It's a shoeless hostel, where you have to leave your shoes at the entrance and wear shared Crocs. I found that unhygienic and uncomfortable, especially given how poorly maintained the place felt. The renovation also seemed extremely minimal, basically just a coat of paint, though that part alone didn't bother me too much. The building feels cold and institutional, almost like a prison. We later learned it had been a military border control barracks, and that atmosphere is still there. The new barracks are right next door, with a very industrial area around them. The bed was uncomfortable, particularly the poor-quality pillows, which made sleeping hard. The double bed was two separate mattresses that kept sliding apart, not comfortable for a couple. Ventilation was another issue: even with double-pane glass, the window only opened a little, so there was hardly any fresh air. Breakfast was very basic and forgettable. The shower had good pressure and reliably warm water, which was a plus, but the bathroom layout is flawed and water gets everywhere when you shower.

We had a perfect stay: everything was very clean, the beds were comfortable, and the interior felt cozy. It was quiet, check-in was easy with clear instructions, and the bus stop is just 200m away. A perfect place in Kuusamo.

Despite the nice location, this was the worst hostel I've stayed in. It was badly managed and maintained, and the room I got at check-in was dirty. The owner had the entrance renovated and painted without telling us, and the shared toilets were very dirty too. It felt pretty disrespectful towards guests.

The mattress was very good, the first time I've had one like that in Finland, despite travelling to Suomi for the last 25 years. My family was delighted with the cozy, pleasant, comfortable place, and we're quite likely to return in the near future. The young entrepreneur couple were friendly and ambitious. The hostess has a good eye and understands what guests really want.

There was nothing missing, and the place had a lovely atmosphere. It was warm and clean, and we could rent a snowmobile to explore the lake and nearby forest, which was a great alternative to organized trips. The hosts also helped arrange a bonfire, and we're very grateful for that. I'd recommend it :), great ❤️
