We paid 180 euros for one night, then the host wanted another 100 euros for sheets and towels. They said that was their rule. Who expects tourists flying in from Europe to pack bed sheets? It felt like renting a car and being told the wheels cost an extra 100 euros a day. We hadn't had internet on the way to Ruka, so I couldn't read all the host's messages. When we got to the cabin, there were no sheets or towels. The mattress was dirty and the bed smelled awful. We couldn't even shower without towels, and honestly, sleeping at the train station might have been better. I hope other tourists don't get caught out like we did.

In summer, the lake looks beautiful. In winter, it freezes over and you can walk across it. A nice place to stay.

Seven of us fit comfortably in the house. It had three rooms, a living room and a kitchen, plus a sauna. The ski slope was just a five-minute drive away.
