Original Sokos Hotel Lappee

A decent stay for a reasonable price. It was easy to get around on foot, and the waterfront was close. The breakfast buffet offered plenty of choice, though it felt generic. Our room was a little bare, more Russian in style than charmingly Finnish, and could use an update. Service was fine, just not especially good.

Being inside the IsoKristina mall meant we could walk to plenty of restaurants and bars without bundling up for winter. The lakefront and bus routes were nearby too, and the train station was about a 10-minute walk away. The hotel has a sauna and gym, though there's no treadmill. Lehmus OY is five minutes away and has a full gym for 5 euro, which is a good deal. Awesome hotel.

Friendly staff, good parking, and a convenient location. There are nice restaurants too. A very good hotel.

The pool was a stylish surprise, but there were no lockers for room keys or valuables. That felt especially concerning with direct access from the gloomy parking hall. The men's sauna also smelled stuffy and needed more frequent cleaning. Breakfast was the main reason we probably won't come back. The selection was good, and I appreciated the local products, but most things didn't taste very fresh. The scrambled eggs had a distinctly industrial taste and texture, the juice concentrate was far too diluted, and the hot water for tea tasted like stale coffee. When we asked, staff promptly brought cleaner water from the kitchen. We also didn't enjoy having to cross the adjoining mall to reach the breakfast room. The standard room was comfortable and as quiet as promised, although it was a long walk from reception. The kettle with complimentary tea and instant coffee was welcome. Still, two of the three reading lights didn't work, and we couldn't open the windows to air out the room before bed. Apart from breakfast, this felt like a standard Sokos hotel we'd have been happy with at a price that matched what it offered. At almost 150€ including parking for a standard room, it was priced like a boutique hotel and fell well short of our expectations.
