The private lake access gave us a lovely spot to watch for the aurora, and the place itself feels like a little gem tucked away in Northern Lapland, with the amenities we needed and shelter from the cold. The nearest supermarket is in Ivalo, a 30-45 minute drive, but our kind host had made sure we knew that before arriving.

Seeing the northern lights from the garden was a real treat, and the frozen lake and snow-covered pines made the whole place feel like a winter wonderland. The house was clean and comfortable, with a sauna inside and a jacuzzi on the terrace. The owner had thought of all the details and made sure we were comfortable. It’s about 50 minutes from Ivola airport, but shopping is far away, so buy what you need before you get there. Thanks for such warm hospitality. I’d love to return again and again.

We arrived at 7pm and saw the aurora borealis at 9pm, a perfect weekend. The smaller guest house, house 2, was extraordinary and the setting was peaceful. We flew into Rovaniemi and drove for five hours in winter, though Ivalo may be a better airport to use.

Cottage #2 was spacious, cosy, and very well equipped, with a full kitchen and sauna. Older kids can sleep on the fun mezzanine, though its ladder is steep. The owners were super helpful, and the remote spot by the frozen lake was wonderfully quiet. It sounds like a great place to see the aurora when the skies are clear. The local snow ploughs even come down to the house, so the route stays navigable despite constant snow. Google’s location wasn’t quite accurate, which made it a little tricky to find, but it was worth the effort. Cottage #1 is bigger and has a jacuzzi.

We spent a few days in this cosy, wonderful home, surrounded by stunning scenery. It was just right for getting away from everything, enjoying nature, and seeing the beautiful northern lights. We’ll definitely be back.
