Arctic TreeHouse Hotel

I expected a luxury stay in Lapland for the price, but the basic comfort, hygiene, and service fell short. The room looked poorly maintained, with damaged flooring and visibly dirty pillows. The mattress was so thin and uncomfortable that I could barely sleep, and I left with back pain. The setup and amenities didn’t feel in line with the premium cost, and the room standard was below what I’d expect even at a three-star hotel. When I brought up the problems, customer service made little effort to help or improve things. Instead, I was encouraged to pay extra for an upgraded room. It wasn’t worth the money at all.

The staff were friendly and helpful from the moment we arrived, giving us rides to our room and answering all our questions. We also booked a sledge ride through the forest to Santa Claus Village, which felt magical. The hotel is quite isolated, with a lovely forest view. Our room was great, and the bed and blanket were really comfortable. We’d been warned about limited hot water, but didn’t have any trouble with it. We enjoyed the activities too, especially the fat bike ride, tube slides, and campfire.

The glass-front rooms and their stunning views were the best part of our three-night stay at Arctic TreeHouse. The staff were welcoming, respectful, and accommodating, and the two Kosovo gentlemen at valet service and the restaurant waiter were especially kind. But for around €800 per night, the rooms felt very small and not especially luxurious, and the overall service and amenities didn’t justify the price. Breakfast was a letdown. After stays at hotels around the world, this was among the weakest we’ve had, with few choices and stale pastries every morning. The views made for a unique experience, but it felt significantly overpriced.

We booked a Northern Lights tour through the hotel well in advance, at the same time as our stay. The guide said as soon as we set out that there was heavy fog, so they must have known we wouldn’t see anything. Since the tour was fully prepaid, nobody offered to reschedule. Then, on the following days, we saw the Northern Lights right from the hotel grounds, which was amazing and magical. The cabin-style rooms are beautiful and the hotel itself is nice, but our room was dirty, with food left on the floor from previous guests. Cleaning seemed very superficial, and the bathroom was extremely small. The extra bed also felt unsafe because the side doors opened easily and someone could fall and get hurt. There’s potential here, but cleanliness, safety, and customer service need significant improvement.
