Ounasvaara Lakituvat chalets

There’s a spacious living room and a kitchen with everything we needed in this beautiful family chalet. It has a sauna too, and a little let are in the storage for the kids to enjoy. The breakfast restaurant is within walking distance. At night, so many street lights make it harder to see the auroras, though it’s still possible. I got to see one beautiful aurora right in front of the chalet.

We had enough room for six people for up to five days, and the cottage was comfortable. At Lakituvat Chalets, the cottages are spaced out and the setting is quiet, giving it a real “alone in the woods” feel. The interiors are very plain, though a bit of decoration would help. The cleaning wasn’t up to scratch: one bathroom was poorly cleaned, and we found a wool scarf in a kitchen cupboard. Customer service could be better too. On our last night we ran out of hot water. A cleaning staff member, rather than technical staff, checked the power switches. When we called again, we were told, “if we were to go to the cottages every time there’s a problem, we wouldn’t do anything else”. That’s not an appropriate response to a customer, especially given the daily rates and rating.

There’s free firewood for the fireplace and free sleighs for the kids. The house is spacious and clean, with everything you need, sauna included, in a beautiful, quiet location.
