Villa Somosenranta

The setting and spectacular view were hard to beat. With nobody around, it was quiet and private, and the kids could play outside without us worrying about disturbing anyone. The smoke house for cooking and the outdoor fire pit made it feel authentic. We cooked sausages and fish and toasted bread and marshmallows in the snow. When the northern lights are out, this remote spot is incredible for seeing them. The slope just outside had sledges for endless fun for kids and adults, and everyone enjoyed the sauna. Inside, the kitchen was well equipped and stocked with basics left by previous guests. The house was warm and welcoming, with a great clothes and shoe dryer, so everything dried quickly and we could have packed much less. We saved a lot compared with what we expected because we cooked there every night and made picnic lunches. The one meal out was salmon at the fire pit house in Santa village, which I highly recommend: reasonably priced, authentic, and delicious. The bedrooms are simple but very comfortable, and after a day in fresh snow we slept well. The place is bigger than the photos suggest. The kids took over the upstairs lounge with their toys while the adults used the kitchen lounge area. It’s about 20 minutes from the main town and the main attractions. We did Santa village, huskies, skiing, and snow mobiles. We also found a lovely walk from the lodge to the forest church and nearby woodland. Another place recommended by the owners was 25 mins away by car. You need a car. We went in Feb and the conditions were glorious. I could go on, we’ll be back!
