The nature here is stunning, with a trailhead right by the check-in building, and the whole place felt like incredible value. Prices for everything were extremely reasonable. The cabins were pristinely clean, and although I'm not usually into saunas, I liked the private one enough to use it every day. The heated bathroom floors were lovely too. Staff were very helpful, and the equipment rental downstairs from check-in was fully stocked. We enjoyed the dinner buffet, the restaurant, and the pizza. To get to the restaurant you walk through the buffet, and try the squeaky cheese dessert! Breakfast was the one meal we liked less. The smoke sauna needs to be booked separately, but it's a must-do and not expensive. Saunas with a community, followed by plunging into icy water in beautiful surroundings, was an incredible experience. An aurora alert would make the stay perfect. We missed our only chance to see an amazing display because we were asleep, and Kiilopaa is a prime spot for aurora viewing. This was one of our best stays anywhere in the world.

Christmas in the snow was magical. We stayed in the big cabin for three nights, and it had everything we needed to cook. The beds were very comfortable, and having a sauna right there was so convenient, especially after dipping in the river. It was my first time in 0 degrees water, and I loved it so much I went in ten times over the three nights. I didn't book the smoke sauna ahead of time, so I missed that. The snowshoe hike was another highlight. Our professional guides led us 5.6km through the snowy forest, with knee-deep snow making every step a challenge. We saw wildlife tracks and reindeer in the wild, and the sunrise over Kiilopaa at 11am was pretty cool. We had the Christmas buffet dinner, which was mediocre. On Christmas Eve, Santa Claus appeared in a big warm shed, where people could take turns taking photos with him. That was a nice touch. The aurora borealis appeared faintly on Christmas night, and we walked in the fell on Christmas Day. Everything felt divine, serene and peaceful in the snow. Highly recommend this place for a magical Christmas, and you can make a snowman too!

The friendly staff, great skiing conditions, good equipment and easy trail access made this a perfect winter retreat. We stayed in a cute wilderness cabin with its own sauna, with cross country ski trails right outside. There was gourmet food in both the cafeteria and restaurant, and the Finnish smoke sauna experience was just what you'd hope for. Highly recommend this experience!

Loved the location, but the hostel was really outdated. The bunk beds were narrow and low, so I kept hitting my head, and some didn't even have proper mattresses. Furniture was broken, downstairs kitchen smells came up really strongly, and the shower rooms were very cold. Some staff were quite unfriendly too.

A great choice for families, and good value for what you pay. The family room was very spacious, with a big kitchen that had what we needed, plus fast internet. Loved the sauna, of course. The winter scenery is beautiful, and if conditions are right, there's an aurora viewing spot just a short walk away.
