Hotel Astor

The WiFi was fast, and the beds were comfortable, though the pillows were too soft for me. I brought my own, so that was fine. Towels and soap/body wash were provided, and there was an air cooler, not AC. The rotary phone is just for show. Breakfast had lots of options, but clearer signs about lactose would help. My original booking was at Hotel Vallonia. They contacted me to say they’d be closed for the weekend after midsummer and offered me a stay at hotel Astor for the same agreed price. Check-in went smoothly. The hotel has an arrangement with the Theater Parking Garage, where parking is 5€ per 24 hours. The bar menu lists plenty of drinks and food. I tried to order meatballs at 23:30 on arrival night, but was told the restaurant was closed. The restaurant/bar is open until 0:30 every day, and the menu doesn’t say when food service ends. My aperol spritz took 10 minutes to make.

A small, pleasant hotel, and some rooms come with a sauna or jacuzzi.

The service was really polite, the rooms were clean, and the beds were good. Some standard rooms even have their own sauna. Breakfast was superb, and the location is right in the center. It’s a local hotel with its own character, highly recommend it.

The rooms are usually on the small side, but they’ve always been clean and had what I needed. What makes this hotel special for me is the service and breakfast. It’s also in a great spot, right across from the train station and close to the city center, so getting around on foot is easy.
