Tanoa Plaza Hotel

The outside could use refurbishment, but indoors the hotel is new, clean, and well appointed. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the restaurant and service were great. Highly recommend.

I stayed here in August 25 and was treated exceptionally well. Every member of staff was fantastic, the rooms were spotless, and the food was fantastic too.

We spent 12 months planning a family event here for 13 May 2025, coordinating remotely from Australia. The event coordinator was terrible at communication, and we had to follow up repeatedly to get replies to emails. Then, a month before the event, they raised the prices even though we had a contract for an agreed amount. On the day, the coordinator didn’t come to check that things were okay. Two other events were happening at the same time, and there weren’t enough staff on the floor. Our venue hire included water and mints on the tables for the 4.5 hours, but I had to keep chasing staff to put them out and refill the water. It was clear they hadn’t been briefed on what service was expected. Afternoon tea was meant to be served at 3pm, but it didn’t arrive until nearly 4pm, despite me repeatedly asking. The program was supposed to finish at 4pm, and some older guests had already started leaving to travel home in poor weather. There weren’t enough Danish pastries for the guests who remained, and I strongly suspect they served the custard pie we’d paid for as lunch dessert again when the pastries ran short. I was extremely disappointed with the service and wouldn’t recommend Tanoa Plaza as an event venue.

For the right price, I’d recommend Tanoa. I booked through an OTA at a substantial discount compared with the hotel website. On my short stay, the room and bathroom were clean and presentable, the buffet breakfast was simple but appetizing, and the staff were welcoming and hospitable.
