Dinner came to €50 for two: green salad, warm goat cheese toast, duck breast with half a tomato, a slice of cherry biscuit, and a glass of wine. The welcome was friendly and the surroundings quiet. The bed, though, creaks whenever you move and feels a little too deep for two people. The owner wouldn't take a cheque, cash only. It was €80 a night with two breakfasts, plus €4 tourist tax.

We wanted to book a night using a box, but the manager said it wasn't profitable with one and made us pay an extra 90 euros. A really strange way of doing things...

Meals are on the terrace in the morning and evening. Annie pays attention to what you need, and her lovely dog Sam is usually nearby. The house sits above the village of Paulhe, surrounded by greenery, quiet, and only five minutes from the motorway. The guest room stays cool and welcoming, and you can watch the sunset from there. Annie is a cheerful, kind host who’s accommodating and always ready to help.
