Hôtel & Events du Château Lacaze

A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. Our stay was nothing like the online description. We booked a night at Château de Lacaze hotel-restaurant after seeing photos and promises of a charming castle in green surroundings, air-conditioned rooms, a gourmet restaurant, and a pool. What we found was nearly a nightmare. The room was at least clean, but that was the only good thing about it. It was in an annex being “renovated,” not the somewhat dilapidated main building. It was small, had no proper window, just a tilting skylight, and had none of the promised charm or amenities. The supposed air conditioning was only a fan, which would have made the room unbearable in hot weather. During the night the foot of the bed broke, leaving us sleeping on a slant. That summed up the experience. When we arrived, the closed gate and complete silence made us wonder if we had the wrong address. No one was there to greet us, so we called the number posted on the gate. A friendly woman came to let us in, but immediately asked us to pay before showing us the room. That should have been a warning. We tried the restaurant and were the only customers. The tables on the terrace clearly hadn't been cleaned since the day before, and there was just one set menu. The meal was decent apart from the dessert. Breakfast the next morning was mediocre too. The only positive was the kind person who welcomed us, an employee who seemed completely overwhelmed. I never leave reviews, even after mediocre stays, but this felt like false advertising. The online photos and description are misleading. We should have turned around when we arrived.
