Hotel du Roy

I was disappointed by my stay at Hotel De Roy. The restaurant was practically empty, with only 10 guests and room for at least 40 more, yet I was told on arrival that I needed a reservation to eat. With so much space available, the rule felt frustrating and unnecessary. It came across as needless formality instead of genuine hospitality. I would have expected a hotel with that much capacity to be welcoming and flexible, but the policy made me feel unwelcome and took away from what could have been an enjoyable visit. I’d have concerns about staying or eating here.

The rooms were clean and spacious, including a family 'annex' that worked for us and our 3 kids. The setting was beautiful, the staff friendly, and dinner in the restaurant was delicious traditional French food. I’d stayed here as a child with my family on a drive to the South of France, so on a later trip I brought my own children back for a visit.

The duck breast with berry sauce was a treat. Really good food.

Parking is behind the hotel. We turned into the village looking for coffee after a few hours on the road, since the D971 makes a pleasant alternative to the motorway but has few roadside cafes. The staff made us feel very welcome and seemed genuinely pleased that someone had stopped by. We were only passing through, and under different circumstances we’d have liked to spend longer enjoying the hospitality. A very good stop for passing traffic. 😀
