Ibis Aix en Provence Hotel

We booked and paid for a room for three while traveling with our baby. The cot they gave us was old and dirty, with no sheets or cover, just a smelly, dirty mattress. The bathroom reminded me of an old cruise ship, and the rooms were dirty too. This feels more like a one-star hotel.

The air conditioning didn’t work, so the room was unbearably hot. I’m pregnant, and we’d chosen a hotel with AC because we were traveling in August. We opened the window hoping for cooler air, but the autoroute was so close that we couldn’t sleep. The rooms were barely big enough to get into, and there was a very strong sewer smell from the toilet. One of the worst hotel stays we’ve had in years. Honestly, it’s put me off the Ibis brand completely.

There’s an interesting vibe to the hotel, and the lobby looks a bit hipsterish. The staff seemed nice and tried to help, and the pool is a plus, though it needs cleaning and restoration. Breakfast costs 13 euro, which feels pricey, and pork is the only meat option. The rooms are unusually small and hot and humid because the air conditioning doesn’t seem to work properly. I switched rooms, but it was no better. The first room smelled strange, possibly like mold, and the floors looked worn down. In the second room, the sink wouldn’t drain well. The place seems rundown. If I’d known about the AC problems, I wouldn’t have stayed.

We had a really good stay at Ibis Aix en Provence. The rooms were clean, breakfast was very good, and the location was great. There’s also a nice garden where you can sit and relax. Customer service was nothing but positive. We left one of our bags behind after we’d already left the country, and the staff responded quickly with a solution for getting it back. Many thanks to Liza!
