Best Western Golf D'albon

We didn't have time to play, but the golf course looked challenging and well kept. The hotel is quiet and tucked away, not fancy but perfectly acceptable, with secure gated parking that matters in this part of France. The restaurant was okay too, though nothing special. It's remote, so bring whatever you'll need for the night or a round of golf. The location is a little hidden, but Mrs. Google got us there along some very tiny country roads. We'd happily stop again on a Spain to Switzerland trip.

The hotel itself is still a place I absolutely love. The rooms are spacious and thoughtfully laid out, and the hotel staff are brilliant, always going out of their way to help. But the restaurant has disappointed us two years running. In my opinion, the staff there are rude, arrogant, and racist toward British people. This year was worse than last: we had to ask three times for one menu to share among five people, and it only had two set meals. They dropped it in the middle of the table, then left us sitting for 30 minutes without taking a food or drink order, while later arrivals got a bigger menu and had their orders taken and served. The table hadn't been cleaned, and cigarette ends were still in the middle. We left because being so obviously ignored had become embarrassing.

The rooms are huge, and the bathrooms have plenty of space, so there's potential here for a five-star stay. But the popcorn ceilings, poor cleanliness, and need for major remodeling really let it down. The shower was moldy, and the room was dirty enough that I didn't want to get undressed.

It's quiet, with secure parking and a lovely golf course. A bit off the beaten path, but worth the effort.
