The breakfast buffet was decent, and the hotel was close to the centre of this attractive medieval town. We stopped there in May half-term while travelling from the southwest Atlantic coast to London. It worked well as a place to break the journey. The bedrooms were small and basic, but did the job. Parking was outside and paid at certain times. We got lucky on the Friday evening of a bank holiday, when it seemed to be free until 9am the next day.

We had a comfortable bedroom, and the bar was cosy and pleasant, with dogs welcome. Dogs couldn't go into the breakfast room, but we could eat breakfast in the bar. There was on-street parking right by the front door, and the location was great.

We paid about €5.50 a day for easy parking on the road right outside. The bed could have been better: it was two singles pushed together, with a small but annoying difference in height. One of the nights, it was very noisy outside. Nice hotel.

I could keep my cycle in my room, which was a plus. The place was clean and felt safe, but it's old and worn and really needs refurbishing. The breakfast area is tiny. They had tea leaves but no teapot or strainer; the bean-to-cup coffee machine was good, while the other breakfast items were average.

The Wi-Fi was awful, about as fast as an old 1980s modem. And if you like sleeping on the floor, these beds might suit you. I paid €80 for one night and barely slept because it was so uncomfortable. There are better places.
