La Verte Salamandre

The main thing to know is how the house works: there’s no key or lock for your room or bathroom, and you enter through the hosts’ door when they’re there. The room also has several rules posted, and breakfast is at 8:00 a.m. sharp with no flexibility. That may work for some people, but I’d have liked to know beforehand. The room itself is lovely and clean, in a great spot in the city, with comfortable beds and a large, well-equipped bathroom. The couple who welcomed us were kind and smiling. No complaints about the room or welcome. 😉

La Verte Salamandre brings together all kinds of travelers, from pilgrims and cyclists to tourists, and people leave smiling after sharing the human warmth around the table. For me, it’s the place to be! The house has a lovely, simple warmth, with wood at its heart, and Alain-Jean has put his passion into rooms designed with the ecosystem in mind. I loved the table d'hôtes. Nathalie’s cooking is original and creative down to the smallest details, and most of what she uses is homemade, including the bread and desserts. Everything was tasty, refined, and beautifully presented. You can feel how much she loves what she does. The mountains nearby bring fresh, invigorating air, and there are beautiful walks down to the river. It was a real change of scenery and left me feeling revived. I was delighted with my stay!

A great place to stay if you're hiking. Nathalie and Alain made us feel very welcome, and the rooms were comfortable. We also really enjoyed the meals: Nathalie used produce from the garden, along with ingredients Alain had foraged. Thanks for looking after us so well.

We only stayed a night at La Verte Salamandre, but it was a lovely stop. The room was roomy and clean, breakfast was good, and we got a very friendly welcome. Thank you!
