Grand Hôtel de l'Univers

The staff were great, and it's near the train station as well as very close to the city center. I'd recommend staying here.

There isn't a restaurant on site, but there are plenty of nice bistros, coffee shops and restaurants close by. Parking can be a problem, especially if you're traveling in a group. The rooms were okay, though they could use some maintenance, and it isn't the cheapest place, even if deals are sometimes available. The staff were friendly and the breakfast facilities were good. It worked well as a base for the local area and for trips to the wider battlefield sites. All in all, a pleasant stay.

The hotel was comfortable, clean, friendly and central, but what stayed with us most was the kindness of the staff. My husband had become seriously ill on the way to England, and my three adult children came to join me. We were frightened and vulnerable, and Wendy, Georgine, Camille and Soumia were compassionate, accommodating and went far beyond what we'd normally expect. I arrived at 4.15am and was given a very warm welcome straight away. We are extremely grateful to everyone who looked after us.

We got into town a bit late, and Abraham greeted us with such a cheerful, fun welcome. He made a really good first impression of the city. The rooms were nice and clean. If you're driving, expect to get up at 9 to pay for parking.
