I'd stayed here twice before and had no complaints about the facilities. I was planning another trip to Alsace last September and naturally thought of this place, since I'd already been a guest. I called to ask about one night on a particular date. The manager said a room was available, but not for just one night. When I asked why, she snapped, “That's how it is,” with no explanation. I asked again and she hung up. Before that, I'd left my contact details in a message and she never called back, so I had to try again to reach her the next day. That call put me off returning completely. I could have become a third-time customer, or come back again later, but her lack of empathy and listening, and the way she treated a simple inquiry, felt appalling and about as welcoming as a prison door. I emailed to say I would write a review unless she apologized. No apology came, so here it is. The manager may tell you not to use Booking.com for future stays if you used it on your first visit. I booked directly with her the second time to make things easier, even though I didn't have to. It seems to me she wanted to avoid paying commission on the booked nights. Hoteliers often complain in the media about Booking.com commissions cutting into margins, and about Airbnb's unfair competition and different tax and standards requirements, and those complaints can be true. But unfriendly service can send customers straight to these newer lodging options. With this much contempt for a customer, even over a basic question, she's forgotten the basics of business and is hurting herself commercially. Maybe she doesn't realize it. This bad review comes from a former customer who's now dissatisfied, and may warn others away. If you can, I'd avoid this establishment for the reasons above. Alsace is a magnificent region, and I'm sure there are reasonably priced hidden gems nearby with friendly people, even when you're only asking a question and haven't booked ahead. With this place, it's hard to imagine worse.
