Le Castel Rose

The pool and especially the water play area were a big hit with our children, and the toilets and showers were very good. We also had a large, shaded pitch, though it was very dusty, mostly black sand. The bad part was reception. When I went to collect the €50 fridge deposit, the woman accused me of never paying it and refused to give it back. They eventually returned it after I explained who I’d paid and when, but nobody apologized. We even suggested giving customers a receipt to prevent this kind of mix-up, but they wouldn’t listen to advice. Appalling, especially after what was otherwise a great stay.

Prestige accommodation was lovely, with five-star quality, but the three- and four-bed units are very close together, so you can hear the neighbours. Keep that in mind when booking. The two-bed Prestige units are better laid out and spaced apart. We enjoyed the pool and could walk into beautiful Anduze. Nearby, we ate at Le Mazet and Le Taverne. The bamboo park was great for all ages, and we also enjoyed Pont du Gard. All in all, a happy stay.

The staff were really friendly, and there’s a good restaurant and a shop on site. Lidl and Aldi are about a 15-minute walk away, and Anduze takes around 20 minutes on foot. We liked the bamboo park there. Back at the campsite, the water play park and pool are excellent, and the quiet setting makes it easy to relax. The river was low, but there was still enough water for a bit of kayaking or SUP, and some spots were good for swimming. We’d come back.

Outside the high season, this is a lovely place for a few days. There’s a nice river swimming spot as well as a more elaborate pool area, and the pitches are generous. Anduze and three supermarkets are only a short bike ride away.
