Moulin de la Jarousse - Gîtes et Chalets

Cool.

The pool was pleasant and well kept, which was the one bright spot in an otherwise disappointing third visit to Moulin de la Jarousse. We’d enjoyed our earlier stays, but this time paid €188 including breakfast and didn’t feel the quality justified the price. We hope this feedback helps improve things for future guests. We were in the Zen Cabin with our two children. The terrace railings had wide gaps at a height of about 8 meters, which felt unsafe with kids. Inside, there was mold or dampness near the air conditioning and sleeping area, a greasy coffee table, and dirty tiles. The entrance cladding was open, with insulation showing, and the cabin felt neglected. The children’s play area also needed attention, with tall grass, brambles, and nettles growing around the equipment. The treasure hunt sounded fun, but we got no maps, only vague directions. The detector seemed faulty, and we didn’t find anything. At €10 per person, breakfast felt very limited. We know this isn’t a hotel, but at this price we expected more than a few slices of white bread. There were no pastries, fresh baguette, or fruit.

The young woman working there was professional, helpful, and kind. She seemed to be handling much of the site’s operation on her own and stayed cheerful despite the difficulties. It’s a shame, because the surroundings are lovely, peaceful, and relaxing. Our first assigned cabin, the Lovenid, was so filthy that we asked to move, at our own expense. We were transferred to Bollywood, but that cabin also seemed poorly maintained, with dust, cobwebs, and questionable cleanliness. Dormice above us made the night very restless, as if they were having a party overhead. Given the accommodation condition and the services provided, the prices felt far too high. The value for money didn’t match what was advertised.

The retractable roof, usually the main draw of the “La Belle Étoile” cabin for stargazing, couldn’t be used. One panel was missing a gas strut, and when we tried to close the panel that was open, its strut popped out because a mounting nut was missing. At €135 for the night, that was disappointing. The advertised Wi-Fi also wasn’t available. It wasn’t a big issue for our one night, though it could be a problem on a longer stay. We did enjoy the peaceful, pretty grounds surrounded by nature, and the bedding was comfortable, so we slept well. The Nordic bath was in excellent condition and very pleasant to use, and we appreciated the shared pool. The common areas were generally adequate, though the water was off for a while in the morning before it came back. There’s a lot of potential here, but the technical and maintenance problems took away from the experience.
