This felt more like a restaurant with rooms than a hotel, and restaurant guests seemed to come first. The lovely log fire was lit in preparation for diners with reservations, and the snowmobile or snowcat transport was only available for restaurant guests, apart from arrival and departure. Once diners left, the bar and lounge closed, leaving hotel guests with nowhere to gather outside their rooms. There didn’t seem to be a resident manager or anyone in charge who could sort out problems during our stay. We had four rooms, and one had no working heat the whole time, despite sub-zero temperatures. Different staff members tried each day but couldn’t fix it. At night the walk into town was unlit and treacherous, made harder by snow cannons running overnight. The two women on staff were as helpful as they could be. The men, at best, were uncooperative and aggressive. The bedrooms themselves were cozy and comfortable, and there was a good boot room, ski store, and hot tub. Wi-Fi was patchy, and the TV only had French channels.

From the hotel, it’s an easy start onto the main run down to Flaine Forum. The rooms are cozy and comfortable, the staff are friendly, and both breakfast and à la carte dinner were outstanding. Brilliant place to stay in Flaine.

This was one of the best parts of our trip to France. The mountain views from the rooms are incredible, the rooms are comfortable, and both the staff and food were amazing. It has a cozy hunting-lodge feel with plenty of energy, and I can’t fault our stay. The luggage transport service and gear-rental arrangement with the Proski store at the bottom of the slopes made logistics so much easier. The store owner is also a ski instructor.

The Italian herb Steak Tartar caught my eye on someone else’s plate, so I ordered it. Honestly, it was the best thing I’ve eaten in as long as I can remember. Their home made chips were next level too. Decor and service were great, and the food prices felt reasonable for a mountain restaurant. I loved lunch there so much I had to write a review. Get the tartar, so it’s still on the menu when I come back next year. Get it.
