It’s a quiet place, kept in good shape, and a nice spot to recharge in nature. The cottage felt like home right away, with clean, well-equipped rooms and tasteful decor. I’d highly recommend it if you’re after peace, comfort, and authenticity.

The bedrooms have the simple feel of a stopover gîte, with one shower room and toilet for about four people. Though the gîte is beside the road, nights are quiet, and there’s a small outdoor space with a table. The kitchen is practical, with two refrigerators, a dishwasher, and a washing machine. The decor could do with an update, especially the very rustic dining room.

The landlady was very accommodating to everyone. We arrived at Barbajou for one night, then ended up staying a second after the floods in Éget and the road closure to Spain on Sept. 7. The kitchen had all the dishes, pots, and utensils we needed, and we could park our two motorcycles in front. We had nothing to sleep on, but she provided sheets. Bring your own shower soap. We’ll stop at this cottage again when we’re back in Aragnouet.
