Villa Primerose

They were incredibly rude, and the whole thing felt like a scam. We were charged extra for arriving after 8pm. When we got there just before 9pm, they demanded an apology and had already cancelled our room without refunding us. Then they charged us again for a new reservation at a higher price. I’d avoid this place.

I usually stick to predictable roadside hotels, but this time I wanted somewhere more rural and special. By chance I found this chambre d'hôtes, a charming old castle. The owners have preserved the feel of its 19th century past while restoring it very well. I was welcomed warmly, and the staff were attentive and made me feel at home. My room was spacious and cozy, with classic castle decor. Happily, the bed was comfortable and modern, and the bathroom was spacious, modern, and well equipped. The garden looks like a lovely spot for a cognac and cigar, though February was a bit early for that. I’ll definitely return. It was a wonderful stay. August 2025 addition: I had another good stay here. I tried to book on the day of my return trip, but they were fully booked, so I found another nice hotel and have just reviewed it. I’ll be back at the Villa Primrose. It’s a lovely place with very friendly staff.

Charles is a great host who clearly cares about the property and the food. We had a lovely dinner and breakfast, and the large beds were very comfortable. The bathrooms were lovely too, and the setting was quiet. It’s a traditional old French Villa full of character and history, with big rooms, oiled wooden floors, paneling, marble fireplaces, shutters, and traditional furniture. We stayed overnight on the way to Switzerland. It’s convenient for the A26 when travelling to or from Calais, with secure gated parking and a garden.

We stayed two nights here with our dogs, once on the way from the UK to Nice and again on the way home. Both stays worked out really well. The family room annex had plenty of space for us and the two dogs, plus secure gardens where they could wander. Service was personal and excellent, and the meals in the main residence were tasty. The decor is endearingly eccentric and might not suit everyone, but I’d choose it over a generic, faceless hotel chain any time. Enjoy!
