Grand Hotel du Golfe

That view is spectacular, and our room was very comfortable. Everyone on staff was friendly and ready to help, and the hotel itself is beautiful. The bistro was a highlight of our travels around France. Seb looked after us so well and made us feel welcome. We also liked that the wine we enjoyed with dinner could be bought through the hotel at cellar prices. We’ve already started talking about another trip.

The staff were wonderfully friendly and welcoming, and the service was top-notch. Still, a few small things were surprising for a four-star hotel: there was no shampoo, conditioner, or body lotion, and breakfast wasn’t what I’d expect at a place like this. The hotel itself is nice.

We’d stay here again if we came back to the region. The Mediterranean view from room 201, which was in the far top corner, stretched east from the harbour to the wind farm windmills. That view definitely made up for the Wi-Fi, since neither the regular network nor the special one they offered worked in our room. The room was very clean, and the two shower heads with a push button to start and stop the shower were great. The air conditioning was confusing: when I manually tried to set it below 22° C, the temperature went up instead. Reception could reset it, but we didn’t know that at 2:00 a.m., when the room was exceptionally hot. Check-in was great and the staff were amazing. We hadn’t booked dinner, but they helped us get a table and fit us in for 8:45 p.m. The food was absolutely amazing, and so was the local wine. The chef did a fantastic job with both our meals. The pool wasn’t warm as we’d been told. We went down and tried it, but it was just too cold. It’s about a 2.5 km walk by the quickest route to Collioure, a walk we did about six times. We also took the cliff-edge and beach hike once, about 5 km.

We paid good money for a supposed luxury room, but it didn’t even have a fridge. We stayed for one night several weeks ago, checked in quite late, and only had time for a sandwich. We ordered two panini at 14 Euros each and got two large buns with literally no filling. Quite a rip-off. We travel around Europe a lot and rarely complain, but this place wasn’t worth what we spent. It should be avoided.
