We spent a week here. The place sits right in the old district, handy for sights and restaurants, and the terrace is lovely. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen had what we needed to cook and eat, and the heating and A/C worked well. Showers in the bedrooms were very good, though they had no privacy. The downsides are a single small toilet with its door opening into the kitchen, and a tight spiral staircase up four flights. You’ll have to carry your luggage up it, and use those stairs every day when sightseeing. If that works for you, I’d recommend the place.

The rooftop terrace is a lovely place for breakfast or an evening aperitif, though in summer it gets very hot from afternoon until sunset since there’s no awning or cover. From the upper lounge and bedroom, the views across the rooftops and the Rhône are spectacular. The apartment is split over two levels, recently renovated in a modern style while keeping its heritage details, and spotlessly clean. It has everything needed for a holiday, including high-speed Wi-Fi. It’s in a great spot, just steps from the Forum and its many cafes and restaurants. Since the lane is pedestrian, it stays peaceful, and the shopping area, historic sites, and Rhône promenade are all close by. The apartment is at the top of a typical period building, reached by a beautiful spiral stone staircase. Nelly, who looks after the apartment, was a delight. The owner Damien was helpful, accommodating, and quick to respond.

Waking up to the Rhône from this beautiful duplex was such a pleasure, and the terrace was a lovely surprise. It’s right in the historic center, incredibly central but still so quiet that we barely heard a sound. The kitchen works well, every bedroom has its own shower, and the decor is really tasteful. We had a brilliant time. See you next time!

Without air conditioning, this rooftop apartment in Arles gets stiflingly hot. And getting up there means climbing three spiral staircases, which is exhausting.
