Hôtel La Gentilhommière

The food was good, but the service turned the evening into a disappointing experience. We paid 260 euros for four people, and I expected much better. My dessert spoon was dirty, no bread came to the table, there was no explanation or presentation of the dishes, and nobody checked on us during or after the meal. The waiter forgot the mise en bouche, which we only noticed when our first courses arrived. When we asked, he admitted he’d forgotten it. Then he struggled to open our wine and broke the cork. Without a word, he went to the kitchen and came back with the same bottle, cork bits still inside, and set it down. No presentation or tasting. They’d also initially lost the reservation I’d made the day before, though they found us a table within a couple of minutes. We’d only just tried the restaurant, and it was the worst dining experience we’ve had in the area. We live nearby, but we won’t return.
