Maeva Particuliers Residence Port du Crouesty Cap Ocean

We had a great week, and the price felt reasonable for what we got. The apartment had a large terrace and private parking, and it was right by the port. From there, we could see a lake and the sea in the distance, though that huge boat-shaped spa next door spoils the lake view. We were nervous because of all the negative reviews of Maeva Port du Crouesty, but the apartment had been renovated and turned out to be a pleasant surprise. The bedding was excellent, and the kitchen furniture and flooring were brand new.

We paid for the cleaning package, but at checkout we still had to clean the kitchen and leave the sheets and towels in a basket at reception. The whole stay felt overpriced for what was offered. The Maeva listing gave us the wrong impression. We booked through a chain to avoid the hassles of dealing directly with a private owner, then learned on arrival that Maeva was only managing the keys. The apartment looked nothing like the photos: it was small, old, poorly maintained, and dirty enough that we asked to have it cleaned before moving in. There was no ventilation, so our bath towels stayed damp all week in midsummer. The residence had poor soundproofing and no privacy. The laundry room was out of order, and the pool couldn't be used. That last part was a minor concern, since a little sign from management reminded us that we were by the water and could take a "splash" in the sea. Appalling, and extremely overrated.

Customer service refunded us €50 after we complained, but we're still very disappointed and don't think we should have to pay for that stay. We booked two apartments together, then found they'd been put in separate buildings far apart, which was hardly convenient with the kids. One was clean and modern; the other looked frozen in 1980 and was covered in dust, as if nobody had been in it since then. It was apartment 16 in the Quai des Voiliers residence. We went to the agency about the many defects, but they said it wasn't their problem. The owners had left sticky notes with instructions for tenants, so we left some of our own. The apartment was so sad and shabby that I could have cried when we arrived. We left after three days instead of staying six. The fridge was broken, the bedding was awful, and it wasn't clean. The old-fashioned sea-themed decor didn't help. It was on the sea side, but we couldn't see the sea because the ground-floor windows looked onto a hedge. This was the saddest place I've ever rented from Maeva at Crouesty port. That's it for us, Maeva.
