Maison d'Hôtes Orlaya

The room’s bedding was comfortable, and the village itself is charming and quiet. We also enjoyed both breakfast and dinner. The welcome, though, felt cold and rather strict. Access to the garden was limited, and every door was locked. The room was very basic, so bring board games if you need something to do. The lights go out at 7:45 pm. At dinner, we didn’t think €3.50 for a glass of wine was reasonable, especially as the welcome cocktail we’d been told about was forgotten. The tourist tax was written on a sticky note at breakfast, which felt like a curious way to say goodbye. In our humble opinion, two nights here aren’t worth the price of the Wonderbox. If you want a friendly, welcoming bed and breakfast, I’d look elsewhere. As you can probably tell, we didn’t enjoy our stay.

The clean room had clean sisal-type flooring, though it was uneven enough that you had to watch your step. The shower door was broken and had been replaced by a curtain, and the towels, while clean, were worn. We ate there on our second evening, hoping for something more local. The oilcloth and old-fashioned placemats added to my disappointment. The welcome was adequate, and we picked the place for its location near Rocamadour, Padirac, St. Cirq la Popie, and other places we wanted to visit. The sightseeing more than made up for the stay.

We had a wonderful two-day stay through Smartbox. The meals were generous and delicious, and we got a warm, family-style welcome. Our room was clean and practical. I have no complaints and would highly recommend this place.

The owner was attentive throughout our very pleasant two-night stay in mid-March. The meals were delicious and sophisticated, made with local produce, and the sightseeing tips were excellent. I’d book this guesthouse with complete confidence.
