Campanile Auch

The staff were friendly, but the room was pretty horrendous. We were here for a wedding outside Auch, and while the other guests' rooms were fine, ours should never have been opened for guests. Damp had pulled the skirting boards away from the wall. The carpet beside the bed was soaked, and there was water between the opposite skirting boards and wall too. The room smelled revolting, like a dirty damp public toilet mixed with old socks. Outside the bathroom, the floor was lifting. Some kind of glue and water were seeping out, and each time we stepped on the boards, it squished out through the gaps. I showed it to a staff member on our first morning, but nothing happened. At checkout I was told the room would be closed after us, though we had been allowed to stay there in that condition for three nights. It's probably okay if you only need a bed or a quick stop.

The room wouldn't work for someone with reduced mobility: there was no lift, and the bath and shower sides were very high. The room itself was small but clean, and the bed was comfortable. The restaurant food was average. I expected the Fish'n'Burger to come with both fish and a burger, but it was just a few fish goujons in a bun. Poor value.

The phones in the room didn't work, and it took hours to get the room warm. I wouldn't ask for much, and I could still have left a good review despite a few things not working, if it weren't for the “director,” Marie Perigaud. She was incredibly rude and yelled at us, saying, “I have the right to speak to you people the way I want to.” I'd only asked how she thought she had the right to speak to us like that. She was angry that we weren't out by 11:59, even though checkout is at 12:00. We were packing and running a little behind, and told her we were moving as fast as we could. We simply asked for ten minutes, and she went crazy. This was the worst place I've ever stayed anywhere in the world. If I could give it zero stars, I would.

The director saw our names on the guest list and ordered halal meat for the restaurant. The rooms were great, and the staff made us feel very welcome. After that, how could I give less than five stars?
