Logis Auberge de la Fontaine

We ended up being very satisfied with dinner at the only restaurant in and near the village. We were visiting Autoire and wanted somewhere close by to eat, but weren’t sure if this place would be a good choice, or where else we could find a restaurant. The food was delicious. We chose a plat and dessert from the menu. There aren’t many options, but that seems to mean they focus on good-quality local food. It’s better to reserve ahead. The staff speak English.

We stopped by at lunchtime for a drink. We noticed the tradesmen, who always seem to know the good places to eat, were avoiding the place. We should have taken that as a warning. The wine was really bad, and when we complained, the staff were rude and said we still had to pay for it. Autoir is a nice place to visit. Find somewhere nicer to eat or drink.

The terrace at Auberge de la Fontaine caught our eye on the last day of our vacation, and the refreshing mist sprayed across it was a nice touch. Autoire is a charming village with a stunning waterfall. They were out of cheese platters, but I really enjoyed the coffee. My husband and daughters loved the ice cream and sorbets, and my husband had a Café Liégeois, coffee-flavored ice cream with homemade whipped cream. It was a delightful treat, and the prices were incredibly reasonable for the region. We were lucky to find it on our last day, or we might have put on quite a few kilos from all those tempting desserts!

The food was okay and the service wasn’t great, but when you’re in the middle of nowhere, it makes for a good lunch stop.
