Hôtel Restaurant La Buffe

The reception staff who looked after us were great, but the meal was an absolute disaster. It was tasteless, overcooked, and had very strange combinations. We travel all over Europe and love eating out, supporting local places, and trying local produce and new things. This was probably one of the worst meals we’ve had. Our granddaughters, both under 10, could have done better. I definitely wouldn’t recommend eating here.

The food and service deserve five stars from me. The bathrooms had a few minor issues the owners are addressing, and breakfast came from push button coffee machines that were adequate but not great. Neither would put me off returning. The restaurant was excellent, with vegetarian and fish main course options, which is unusual for France. Every course was beautifully presented and made with local produce, and you could tell real care went into the cooking. The wine list also focuses on local wines, though it reaches a little further afield for obvious reasons. Both food and wine were very good value for the quality. This is a great independently run hotel in a wonderful location, surprisingly easy to reach from the motorway in Grenoble or by the stunning road through the gorges of the western Vercors. We found it on Booking. Com but booked directly. The young couple who own and run it have a strong commitment to sustainability. Rooms are clean and comfortable, with the essentials rather than frills. Our double had a balcony overlooking the village and hills. The owners speak good English, and all the staff were professional and courteous.

The owners were very friendly and take great care to keep things local, natural, and bio friendly. We had a wonderful stay in a beautiful, peaceful setting, with comfortable rooms and beds. The food was excellent, and we hope to come back.
