After hours on the motorway, the lovely welcome and inviting setting were just what we needed. It was extremely hot, through no one’s fault, and getting to sleep was really hard, especially for one person in our party who had an attic room. Such a shame, because the rooms are beautiful. We had a delightful evening meal in the garden, and the wine guidance was excellent.

The owners were fantastic and helped us with everything we needed. We loved the pool, set in an old cement factory, and had a delicious breakfast and a wonderful dinner. Be sure to book dinner ahead. We stayed in an apartment, which was spotless and thoughtfully detailed, with lots of graphic novels. The building and its location are fantastic, and the garden around it had plenty to keep both kids and adults occupied.

We came by car, though we also saw people arrive by motorbike and bicycle, which looked fun. The hotel is near the picturesque villages of Avallon and Vezelay, as well as the Morvan hiking routes. It’s an old castle in quiet countryside, close to a small village. My parents and I spent two nights in the biggest room, Ernest, and wished we’d stayed longer. It felt like an apartment, with historic character, beautiful furnishings, and very comfortable beds. Breakfast each day was absolutely delicious, with croissants, coffee, and homemade jams. We’d also booked a multi-course dinner for one night, and it was among the best meals we had in France. The weather wasn’t great, so we didn’t get to try the pool, but it looked wonderful when we saw it. If you enjoy rustic historic charm, quality rooms, and lovely hosts, this could be the place for you. I hope I can return one day.

We found the stay too expensive and overrated, and after five nights we wouldn’t return. We’d booked largely because our previous visit two years earlier had been good, and because of the Tesla charger. The beds and the nature around the house were good, but that was about it for us. The dinner was expensive, and there are better alternatives at that price. We didn’t feel welcome either. The hostess was cold and rushed when we arrived. We asked about having dinner during the week and were told it wasn’t possible on two nights because the place was closed, yet there were dinner guests on those nights. That felt especially bad on our second stay, which lasted five nights. The Tesla charger was broken on day one. The next day, the hostess said she’d call the electricity company, ADF, to get it working. Three days later, she told us she hadn’t called and it still didn’t work. We ended up with extra costs and got no explanation that made sense. After the host responded, I wanted to add that Stefaan, maybe ask questions before writing this rant. You were on holiday, so you couldn’t even know how things went. Also, your response contains quite a few lies. Hopefully you can read the clock better in real life, since we were having breakfast at 8:15. And it’s great to see that everyone who’s left negative comments gets such a grown-up reaction from you.

There’s a lot of history here and wide grounds, and it’s a quiet, comfortable place to explore the region from. The rooms, breakfast, and dinner were all good, and the hosts were very friendly and helpful.
