Domaine de Champouteau

The kids made great use of the swimming pool, and there’s plenty to explore nearby. Domaine de Champouteau is a lovely, spacious, clean house with a big garden and everything we needed for a very enjoyable week. It’s set somewhere quiet and remote, which made for a really relaxed stay.

Blois is only about a five-minute drive away, with a large supermarket for supplies, and the surrounding area has some fantastic towns and chateaux to visit. The owner lives on site and was friendly and very helpful whenever we needed anything. Our villa was comfortable for the whole family, well equipped for a holiday, and had parking right outside. The pool is just beyond the back door, and there’s loads of outdoor games equipment too. A great place to stay.

We stayed in the largest gite, Hortensias, in July 2023 with 11 people. The hosts were really nice and relaxed, and the accommodation was well kept and clean, even for those with OCD. Everyone loved the pool, and we used it almost every day. The location was handy for visiting Blois, Orleans, Tours, and Château Chambord. There’s a toilet and sink on each floor. The main bedroom and the downstairs bedroom also each have their own sink, alongside the downstairs shower room and laundry. Upstairs there’s a bathtub with a shower. The living room has AC, though after sunset we could open the shutters and curtains and get a nice breeze. The host let me try charging my EV in his outbuilding with a schuko adapter. It worked fine, though slowly. Otherwise, Tesla superchargers are in Blois, about 10 minutes south. A wonderful place to get away.

Bruno, the owner, was very nice to all of us. The house has huge rooms, an open-plan kitchen and a big living room, plus a swimming pool and hot tub. It’s only 15 minutes from Blois and an hour from Tours. We had a perfect week-long break and I’d recommend it to anyone.
