Mercure Avignon Centre Palais des Papes

After we found parking easily, I realized I’d misread the address and gone to the wrong hotel. One of the reception team walked us over to the Palais des Papes and couldn’t have been more helpful. The hotel reception team were helpful too, and our well-appointed room had an excellent view. Being so central meant we could visit the bridge and the Palais, then walk around town and find gelato for a welcome ice cream on a very hot day. My wife and I both slept well in the extremely comfortable bed. Breakfast the next morning was very good, with plenty of pastries, charcuterie, cheese, fruit, and delicious coffee. We’d certainly return.

The location was good, but the hotel feels very worn and badly needs renovating. My room wasn't especially clean or well equipped, so I left pretty disappointed.

There’s no parking at the hotel, though there’s a public lot close by and guests get a discount. The location is excellent, but the rest of my stay let me down. My room was small and dated, and the place didn’t feel up to the standard of a four-star hotel. I wouldn’t recommend it to a friend, and I won’t book here again.

After a very long flight, we arrived to learn that our booking had supposedly been cancelled because our agent hadn’t paid for the room. When we asked how and when it happened, staff first said they’d called twice, then said it was by email. They couldn’t find the emails when we asked to see them. We also asked for the manager, but were told he wouldn’t be available until 10:30 the next morning. For that night, they found us a hovel to stay in. We came back at 10:30, and the manager still wasn’t available. They also still had no evidence that our booking had been cancelled. I’d advise anyone travelling here to keep reconfirming their booking in case of questionable dealings.
