We were six, including a 12-month-old baby, and came back from hiking to find there wasn’t enough hot water for everyone. After three showers, it was cut off. There was only one baguette a day for breakfast, with already-opened jam, bottled juice and coffee we didn’t need. I didn’t see any pastries, despite the positive comments describing a generous breakfast. We ended up buying our own. During the stay, I felt like we were constantly at risk of upsetting the host. We were told to turn the tap only to the right, not to move the TV cabinet even to reach the power strip, and to ask before using the spare duvets and blankets. The host also came in to check the shower while we were out. We caught her in the middle of our bedroom, supposedly changing the bathroom bin. We were warned to lock the window too, or risk losing the heating and getting sick. That happened to us. Feeling like a nuisance really spoiled the stay. Given the other reviews, I was disappointed that our host never seemed concerned about our comfort or wellbeing, from the welcome onward. I understood Viviane had bad experiences with previous renters, and it’s a shame that seemed to affect us. We’re a mixed couple, traveling with our respective mothers-in-law and our baby. I don’t want to think that played a part in the welcome, but honestly, I have serious doubts. The setting is beautiful, with an incredible mountain view from the house. The shopkeepers and locals around Ayze and Bonneville were all warm and welcoming. The baby cot provided was also a plus.
