Hôtel Les Trois Lys

The staff were lovely, and the location is great. My room was spacious, with good water pressure and hot water, though that was just in my room. In other rooms the heating didn’t work, and the water stopped running partway through a shower. There’s no elevator, so stairs may be a problem with big luggage or mobility issues. The rooms are mediocre at best, with little privacy: I woke to the person next door’s alarm. Things were broken, including a jammed shower door and a cabinet cover that fell off hinges after apparently being taped on. Rooms are spread across different parts of the hotel, and sometimes you have to go outside to reach yours, something to keep in mind in bad weather with bags.

Although the staff were friendly, they didn’t act when I reported that the old mattress was uncomfortable and we could feel its coils and springs. There’s nobody kept in the lobby, so there isn’t any security. Some rooms are around a corner through the alley, with no lock on the door and no security person. Explorica uses this hotel for high school groups, but should research it more carefully.

The rooms stank, there was no air conditioning, and the water was dirty. Breakfast was mediocre, and some of the bread was moldy. After a lovely visit to the nearby Château d'Azay-le-Rideau, we’d hoped for a good night’s sleep, but this place was absolutely horrendous. Getting to the rooms meant walking around the building over gravel and climbing several flights of stairs, since there’s no elevator. In the rooms we found bedbugs, gnats, black widows and termites, some dead and some alive. The bugs had left blood and droppings everywhere. Don’t come here. It’s not worth it at all.

We stayed during the festival and enjoyed the beautiful village and Castle. The hotel was great value, with friendly staff. Thank you.
