James and his mother gave us a warm welcome to this piece of Malouine history. We spent our anniversary here, and it felt remote, peaceful, old-fashioned, and romantic. It’s ideally placed for exploring the beautiful parts of East Bretagne.

The room was spacious, comfortable, clean, and well equipped. Breakfast was very good, just like at home, and the welcome felt genuine and attentive. We also got really good advice about places to visit nearby.

I really enjoyed my evening here. The property is beautiful and peaceful, and the room was clean, with a TV and Wi-Fi. We asked the owner for the Wi-Fi code, and they kindly gave it to us. Towels and shower gel were provided, and there were tea bags and ladyfingers in the room. Breakfast in the morning was good and cost €13, with delicious homemade apple juice and warm crepes made by the owner.

We booked a night in a caravan for early March, but were surprised to find that the “caravan” was actually a mobile home surrounded by wooden cladding. When we looked around, we found it very dirty, with mouse droppings and urine in several places, including the cupboard, cutlery drawer, and shower towel cupboard. The host said he was sorry and would do a bit of cleaning. We returned 15 minutes later, but the cleaning hadn’t even started. No other accommodation was offered, so we decided to leave. I strongly advise against staying here.

(Stay in a Superior Room from August 9th to 14th, 2022) The house and its setting were a real highlight: this beautiful Malouinière sits on a working farm, and the owner has restored it carefully enough to keep its authentic character. The entrance hall and grand stone staircase were striking, though I tripped on the stairs several times. Our room was sumptuous, with an en-suite bathroom, a very large bed, and comfortable bedding. The view over the entrance courtyard, fields, and woods was delightful. The plumbing worked fine, including the hot water, taps, and toilets. The one annoyance was a toilet seat that wouldn’t stay up, so anyone needing to urinate standing had to manage it carefully. We chose the place mainly for its location, close to Mont-Saint-Michel, Saint-Malo, Dinard, Dinan, and Cap Fréhel. All of these places enchanted us. The essentials were there, and they were impressive, but a few things need attention. The advertised Wi-Fi only worked in the entrance hall. There was no connection in the bedrooms or elsewhere, and we couldn’t get a cell phone signal either, even with the latest models. When we arrived, the bathroom had no shower gel or shampoo. I practically had to beg for the single-use packets, which were handed out sparingly, and on our last day we ended up showering with plain water. There was a kettle in the room, but only two tea bags and three herbal tea bags. We used two tea bags and none were replaced, even though most establishments offer a selection of teas and herbal infusions. I understand that a good manager wants to control operating costs, but shower gel and herbal teas would have been welcome. There was no restaurant service at the manor house, despite what was advertised. Breakfast was available for €13.00 per person. Guesthouse rules are clear that breakfast is required, unlike at hotels. We never saw the spa, and it wasn’t shown to us on arrival, though we probably wouldn’t have had much chance to use it anyway. These are my observations and criticisms, which I hope are objective and constructive. Despite everything, the accommodation remains very pleasant.
