Hôtel Horizon Resort Massane & Spa

We were upgraded, and the room was one of the nicest I've stayed in: spacious, modern, and with a lovely view over the pool and golf course. The hotel has plenty of EV chargers at reasonable rates, €0.28/kWh plus a €0.40 connection fee, and it's about a 20-minute drive from Montpellier centre outside rush hour. A few things got in the way. We couldn't use the pool bar, kitchen or outdoor seating because they had a function on and hadn't warned us. The hotel controls the air conditioning, setting it to 24 degrees one night and 25 the next; guests can't change it, even if they ask. Cars were often parked at the EV chargers without charging, including fossil fuel cars and EVs that weren't plugged in. That's not the hotel's fault, but staff did nothing when we told them, and should ask those guests to move. They also take a €200 deposit.

The pool and gym are great, and we liked the rooms too. The hotel itself has a lovely modern, zen design, but the restaurant was a letdown for both food and service. As vegetarians, we asked for simple raw vegetables like tomato and cucumber, plus olives, but they had none at dinner or breakfast. If healthy eating is what you're after, this isn't the place. Dinner took more than 60 minutes during the week, items were forgotten, and staff paid no attention. Such a shame that the restaurant could spoil the whole stay. We ended up looking for food at a supermarket.

The room/apartment was clean and luxurious, and I liked the staff most of all. They were kind, welcoming and easy to approach, and sorted out my needs and misunderstandings promptly and efficiently. The main restaurant served delicious meals with excellent service. There was a small mix-up where they tried to serve us twice. We were already full, but it was quickly sorted and turned into a story from the evening. The place is peaceful and beautiful, with golf, a spa, restaurants, lovely nature and views. The spa and gym are well equipped, and golf looked well organized, though I didn't get a chance to play. There was some noise outside my apartment at night, probably from air conditioning systems installed on the roof, but it didn't spoil the experience.

We loved the food so much that we ate every meal here. Both the breakfast and the other restaurant were fantastic. Our waiter Theo was really helpful, and it was a bonus that he spoke English with a French accent and helped us understand the culinary ideas behind the dishes. This was our favorite hotel of the whole trip, and we're so glad we stayed. We even extended our last day with a late checkout because we wanted more time at the resort. I'd definitely book a room overlooking the golf course, the sunsets are beautiful. The gym and spa were top-notch and in very good condition too. My only complaint is the pool could be bigger. Kids were playing in it, and at times there wasn't much room for both adults and children. Otherwise, it was an absolutely fantastic stay.
