The only appealing thing about the residence was the view. My three-week treatment stay was made miserable by the state of Mr and Mrs Vanesse's studio: gray skirting boards, an inch of dust under the sofa, grimy sliding shower doors, and a duvet stained with blood. The toilet and sewer odors were unbearable, though I asked four other spa residents in the same building and they had no such smell. I had to clean the whole place myself when I arrived. I wouldn't book through the tourist office again. It awards stars but doesn't check the property's condition during the five years those stars remain valid. An agency costs roughly the same and at least gives you confidence that the place will be clean.

This year's stay left me very disappointed. The place wasn't clean, and nobody came to check the inventory in person. They seemed not to care about tenants at all. I was even asked to wash the mattress protector the previous tenant had left on the bed.

The lagoon view is the residence's biggest asset, looking straight out over Thau Lagoon. The location opposite the lagoon and Sète is lovely, and it's quiet and clean. The building feels dated and needs renovating, though, and there's no elevator.

We were in a bind when we got to Balaruc because the apartment we'd booked, where we'd stayed since 2013, had been rented to someone else. Many thanks to the owners for helping us out. They found us a small, fully furnished studio with a magnificent view of the Etang de Thau, and the building was very clean. I'd recommend it.
