Camping de l'Île

We spent a lovely time watching the starlings nesting in the tree beside our pitch. The campsite has a really nice wild meadow feel beside the Loire, and the people were lovely. They even had a little welcome bag for our dog. Fresh bread was delivered each morning, and the restaurant next door was great for both dogs and children. There are plenty of nearby walks and bike rides, too.

We'd happily come back, especially for one of the shaded pitches. The site was very quiet in early June, so only one shower block was open, but everything was clean. Reception was friendly and spoke English, and you could get bread and viennoiseries there. The restaurant across the road was reasonably priced. Its menu was a little limited, though the dishes we tried were good.

The town is beautiful and an easy walk away, while the campsite itself is in a wonderfully peaceful spot. Check-in was warm and friendly, and the staff made us feel welcome straight away.

This is a basic campsite, with older facilities that are still in good shape. There was plenty of hot water in the showers and at the washing-up area, and the shower cubicles were roomier than some. The town is about a ten-minute walk away, with markets on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday mornings. Lidl and Carrefour are around a mile and a half outside town. Next to them is a big children's theme park with inflatable castles, slides and similar attractions.
