The staff were incredibly welcoming and accommodating, and the gastro restaurant was amazing. Les Elmes is a charming little hotel just outside Banyuls sur Mer, with beautiful views of the beach and ocean. It felt like a wonderful base for settling in and going hiking, with fantastic trails and beautiful weather.

The location by the sea is fantastic, and the service was very good. The rooms are small but comfortable, and don't miss eating at the restaurant. We visit more than 100 hotels a year, so consider ourselves experts. Don't let the bad reviews put you off.

We loved our short stay and only wished it had been longer. The little pool was lovely, the beach access gorgeous, and the staff friendly. Breakfast was beautiful.

The booking email never responded to important questions, and our room reservation for 26 July hadn't gone through. We eventually reached reception by calling the hotel number to book again at the promised last minute rate, but the receptionist refused. They pointed out the price had gone up and that the current price was online. For 25 euros more, they lost a whole reference to future guests. The response was rude and unaccommodating. There are so many friendly, welcoming hotels to stay at, so I wouldn't recommend this one to any of my clients in the future.

The staff are excellent, the views are amazing, and nearly everything looks new. Still, it feels like a 3* hotel that did the bare minimum to become a 4* one. The SPA is really just a sauna and jacuzzi, which should be free. It's a good choice for one night, but not for a longer stay.
