La Maison Rouge – L’Annexe

The staff made us feel so welcome, and the location was a big reason we'd come back. Chambery is only about five minutes away by car and well worth a wander. We ate at the restaurant on both nights, and all four of us chose different dishes each time. Everything was spot on. Two weeks into our European trip, this was our best stay so far. The AC also worked perfectly even with 35° outside. We'll save the place for another visit.

Really good value, with clean, clear rooms and lovely food. The bread and croissants were especially good, and the fruit salad was freshly cut. They even put together excellent takeaway lunches. The staff were super friendly and the attention to detail was hard to fault. Makes you wonder if it's family run.

The room was large, comfortable and clean, and the buffet breakfast in the quiet dining room had a good range of fresh, tasty basics. I also found a last-minute spa slot. The huge jacuzzi was empty, so I had it to myself for an hour, followed by a lovely facial using good-quality products. There are sunny tables outside by the bar, and I'd happily come back when I'm in the area. It's a handy overnight stop just off the main road, with Chambery around a ten-minute drive away for dinner or shopping. We could hear traffic as a steady hum from the room. The restaurant can fill up with conferences, though bar snacks and room service are available, and town is close enough to order an ubereat if needed.

The restaurant is excellent, but it gets busy, so it's best to book. Breakfast is a buffet with plenty to choose from, both food and drink. Our room was spacious and clean, though fairly basic, and the beds were comfortable. There are a spa and gym, which I didn't try. The hotel is out of town but close to the main routes.
