That lovely view is the only reason I’m giving this apartment three stars. The place is cold a lot of the time, and the heating barely helps. There are plenty of stairs, and the owners weren’t especially friendly. The apartment feels as if it’s made of cardboard. There’s no oil or seasoning, the toilet seat comes off when you sit down, and the hot water lasts only about eight minutes. We even went two days without any. A modern shower paired with a 1940s water heater is especially pointless in cold weather.

We spent the week in a quiet apartment on the fourth floor, with no one looking in. A shame, really, because the photos give a misleading impression. The bed is tucked into an alcove, and the bathroom is tiny. It wouldn’t suit a larger person, while the shower and toilet take up too much room. There was also an unpleasant sewer smell. That’s the week in a nutshell.

The owners were friendly, and the location is great. Just be aware it’s on the fourth floor.
