La Maison de Mathilde

Everyone was lovely, from check-in through check-out, and we’d definitely come back. We stayed in the annex, where the rooms were large and very nice, with the best shower. Breakfast was a hit too, and we had a nice supper in the restaurant. The location worked really well for our tours, shopping, and the train.

The staff were very helpful. They arranged a taxi to the train station, which cost much less than Uber, and kept our luggage until it was time for our train. We spent two nights here as a base for D Day tours, and the location near the cathedral was excellent, with an easy walk to the tour meeting spots and around town. The old hotel has no elevator, and the narrow stairs can be a challenge with luggage, though someone at the front desk helped me with my suitcase. Our room was clean and the bed was comfortable, but it was small. We were on the top floor in room 15, where half the ceiling sloped, leaving little room to move; trying to use the desk and chair was laughable. The shower had good pressure and got very hot. There were no face towels or hair conditioner. We had lunch at the restaurant, which was nothing special. Breakfast was 15 Euro per person, and I’d skip it next time. We found several cafes down the block and had a much better breakfast there the second day. It was a good stay despite those smaller issues. If I came back, I might look for a larger room, since I think we only booked the basic one.

The restaurant was excellent, with lovely outdoor seating, and the food at breakfast was incroyable. Make sure to include breakfast when booking. The hotel itself is beautiful in the center of Bayeux’s old city, and the accommodation was clean and comfortable.

The restaurant was wonderful, with delicious food and great staff. We also had a very roomy, safe walk-in shower, which worked well for mobility needs. We’d asked for a room without stairs, and this one went above and beyond: it was on the main floor of a separate building, with our friends staying in the same building. There were no steps into the building or the room, and entry was secure with our room key. The building was right beside a beautiful canal, so we could open the window and see the water just outside.
